Projector Model for Efficient List-Mode Reconstruction in PET Scanners with Planar Detectors

چکیده
Abstrcwt-We have developed a new projector model speciflcally tailored for fast list-mode tomographic reconstructions in Positrón emission tomography (PET) scanners with parallel planar detectors. The model provides an accurate estimation of the probability distribution of coincidence events defined by pairs of scintillating crystals. This distribution is parameterized with 2D elliptical Gaussian functions defined in planes perpendicular to the main axis of the tube of response (TOR). The parameters of these Gaussian functions have been obtained by fitting Monte Cario simulations that include positrón range, acolinearity of gamma rays, as well as detector attenuation and scatter effects. The proposed model has been applied efficiently to list-mode reconstruction algorithms. Evaluation with Monte Cario simulations over a rotating high resolution PET scanner indicates that this model allows to obtain better recovery to noise ratio in OSEM (ordered-subsets, expectationmaximization) reconstruction, if compared to list-mode reconstruction with symmetric circular Gaussian TOR model, and histogram-based OSEM with precalculated system matrix using Monte Cario simulated models and symmetries.

Iterative Reconstruction Methods for High- Throughput PET Scanners
Iterative reconstructions for clinical PET must run fast. We describe a clinical processing method based on sinogram rebinning, Fourier rebinning for the 3D to 2D data reduction, and iterative reconstruction using the attenuation-weighted OSEM method with a projector based on a gaussian pixel model. When this approach is used, multi-bed clinical oncology scans can be ready for diagnosis within ...
متن کاملA study of data sampling in PET with planar detectors
Selecting a software sampling which differs from the native sampling entails some loss of resolution due to data interpolation, but allows to generate a regular sampling which is more easily amenable to efficient analytic or iterative reconstruction in a clinically acceptable reconstruction time (cfr in 2D the arc-correction and the reorganization of the native interlaced LORs onto a rectangula...

Combined PET/CT scanners now play a major role in medicine for in vivo imaging in oncology, cardiology, neurology, and psychiatry. As the performance of a scanner depends not only on the scintillating material but also on the scanner design, with regards to the advent of newer scanners, there is a need to optimize acquisition protocols as well as to compare scanner ...

UNLABELLED The aim of this study was to evaluate the imaging performance of 39- and 52-ring time-of-flight (TOF) PET/CT scanners. We also assessed the potential of reducing the scanning time using a 52-ring TOF PET/CT scanner. METHODS PET/CT scanners with 39- and 52-ring lutetium oxyorthosilicate detectors were evaluated. The axial fields of view were 16.2 and 21.6 cm, respectively. We used a...
